About the Author
Angela Frith Antrim graduated from Duke University in 1993 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Art History and Political Science. After working as a buyer for a department store chain for five years, Ms. Antrim attended Salem College to earn her Elementary Education certification. Ms. Antrim taught 4th and 5th grades, as well as art in North Carolina public and private schools. Ms. Antrim currently writes classroom curriculum from her home in North Carolina. She has published literature guides for The Breadwinner and The City of Ember, as well as Literature Guides for Tuck Everlasting, The Giver, Maniac Magee, Frankenstein, Beowulf, The Watsons Go To Birmingham - 1963, and A Separate Peace for Secondary Solutions. Ms. Antrim has also contributed to a math intervention curriculum for the state of California.

Wonderful book to read with the SM child

I am a psychotherapist in residency for state licensure and am working with a child with severe/"entrenched" SM. I read this book with her and it seemed to really open her up to the idea that she is not alone and that there is a reasonable level of hope that her struggles with SM and social anxiety can be alleviated to a significant (though not necessarily absolute) degree. I believe this would be relatable to many SM children and their families as it does illustrate the primary and generally applicable SM symptoms that are manifested in most cases in some way. This is a simple yet delightful story that educates, entertains, and inspires the SM child, their family, and those who know them.

because Maya is so much like her. The only problem I seem to find ...

My daughter loves it, because Maya is so much like her. The only problem I seem to find over and over with books on selective mutism is that they are so school focused. We homeschool, so the fact that all books are not just based on a school setting, but exclusively talk about a school setting is a bit hard for us.

The perfect book for children with Selective Mutism, they can easily see themselves in this book. It gives them understanding that there are other kids out there just like them and it doesn't mean that they have to stay silent forever. If is also an excellent book for their child classmates, so they can better understand why they friend doesn't like to talk. My daughter is 3.5 and she absolutely loves Maya. She is about to get transitioned the an older group at school and we gave this book to the older group teacher, so she can prepare her kids for the new classmate. Highly recommended!

Our doctor also recommended the "The Very Quiet Cricket", but as for me I would not recommend it. It is a boring book, which has a lot of repetition and it is not clear to the child that the rubbing wing and not making a noise is the same thing as them not talking. If you don't explain it to the child, they may not get it.

This is the first book in English to provide a comprehensive account of the rise and fall of the Almoravids and the Almohads, the two most important Berber dynasties of the medieval Islamic west, an area that encompassed southern Spain and Portugal, Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. The Sanhaja Almoravids emerged from the Sahara in the 1050s to conquer vast territories and halt the Christian advance in Iberia. They were replaced a century later by their rivals, the Almohads, supported by the Masmuda Berbers of the High Atlas. Although both have often been seen as uncouth, religiously intolerant tribesmen who undermined the high culture of al-Andalus, this book argues that the eleventh to thirteenth centuries were crucial to the Islamisation of the Maghrib, its integration into the Islamic cultural sphere, and its emergence as a key player in the western Mediterranean, and that much of this was due to these oft-neglected Berber empires.

Adrian Ward

Adrian Ward is an Oracle ACE Associate who started working in Siebel Analytics back in 2001 and quickly realized the potential in the technology. He formed the UK's first independent consultancy focusing purely on OBIEE (nee Siebel Analytics) and Oracle BI Applications. He has led many large successful OBIEE implementations in a wide range of business sectors, from investment banking to military operations. His deep technical OBIEE and BI Applications knowledge has been applied on dozens of projects throughout the globe, including HR, Sales, Service, Pharma, and Custom Analytics, which is enabling hundreds of thousands of users in their day-to-day roles. Christian Screen (@christianscreen) is an Oracle ACE, technologist, and Business Intelligence evangelist with over 20 years of experience in technology ranging from low-level programming, e-commerce, Data Warehousing, Hyperion Enterprise Performance Management, product management, IoT, and of course, analytics. Haroun Khan

Haroun Khan is one of Europe's leading OBIEE consultants. A computer science graduate of Imperial College, London, he has been involved with OBIEE from its early days as an acquisition from nQuire by Siebel, and subsequently as part of the Oracle family. Haroun worked as a consultant on projects worldwide for Siebel and as a Principal Consultant for Oracle over a period of 10 years. About the Author
Griffis (1843-1928) travelled to Japan in 1870 to teach and soon became a leading educator in Tokyo. His work took him around the country meeting various prominent people. He wrote and lectured extensively on Japan upon his return home, becoming the West's most respected authority on Japanese culture. He received the Order of the Rising Sun in 1928.

About the Author
Robert Hass was born in 1941 in San Francisco. He served as US Poet Laureate in 1995-97. His many awards include a Pulitzer Prize and a National Book Award for Time and Materials (2007), and the National Book Critics Circle Award for Sun Under Wood (1996). His first collection Field Guide was selected by Stanley Kunitz for the Yale Younger Poets Series in 1973. His latest book of poetry is The Apple Trees at Olema: New & Selected Poems (Ecco, USA, 2010; Bloodaxe Books, UK, 2011). Hass also worked with Czeslaw Milosz to translate a dozen books of Milosz's poetry, including Treatise on Poetry and, most recently, A Second Space. His translations of the Japanese haiku masters have been collected in The Essential Haiku: Versions of Basho, Buson, and Issa. His books of essays include Twentieth Century Pleasures: Prose on Poetry (1984) and Now and Then: The Poet's Choice Columns (2007). He lives in northern California with his wife, the poet Brenda Hillman, and teaches at the University of California at Berkeley.
